A Chechen Asylum Seeker Under Threat of Deportation!
On July 7,2009 Anzor Umakhanov, a Chechen asylum seeker arrested in France and now he is under threat of deporation to Russia!
Anzor Umakhanov (1977) and his family was living in Khasavyurt city of Dagestan. They were helping to families which ran away from the conflict zone in Chechnya and also helping to wounded Chechen mujahedeens as hiding them. Anzor arrested by Dagestan police for helping to Chechen mujahedeens and he was tortured by them. After he released, Anzor and his family left to France and they asked to asylum in 2004. Their asylum request was rejected and Anzor was arrested on July 7,2009. According to some sources, French authorities have started to his procedure for deporting to Russia.
His family and friends did a protest meeting on the morning 9 a.m. of July 15, 2009. Human rights activits warned to situation of Anzor. They said that, if Anzor will expel to Russia, then Russian authorities will put him to jail for assistance provided to Chechen fighters and there, they will torture him and even he may lose his life in this prison. So France has to think again step back from their decision.
