Arrest Warrants Issued For Ingush Activist’s Brothers
Federal arrest warrants have been issued for three brothers of Ingush opposition activist Magomed Khazbiev, Kavkaz-Uzel reported.
Kaloy Akhilgov, press spokesman of Yunusbek Yevkurov, President of Ingushetia, was attacked by unknown five men in Nazran city of Ingushetia in February 2010. After a while Kaloy Akhilgov alleged that he identified the attackers and Magomed Khazbiev’s brothers as being among five men. Magomed Khazbiev was summoned by police in early March for questioning about the incident at Akhilgov’s request. But Ingushetian authorities issued a federal arrest warrant for Magomed Khazbiev’s three brothers -Ali, Makhmud and Berd- who are the bodyguards of Magomed at the same time.
Magomed Khazbiev pointed out that Kaloy Akhilgov said after the attack he has no idea, on second day he said he knows personally the attackers and only in the third day he wrote a statement and applied to the police. “My brothers has no connection with the attack. I am sure that the hunt for my brothers, it is an attempt to influece me” said well-known Ingush activist.
Magomed Khazbiev told the website Kavkaz-Uzel, the current circumstances forced him to defend his life and his brothers became his bodyguards. He expressed his fear that without his bodyguards, his life would be in danger.
“In this case, there is no legal perspective. But there is a political perspective” said Musa Pliyev, Khazbiev family’s advocate.
Let’s remember, two other prominent Ingush activists -Magomed Yevloev and Maksharip Aushev- have been murdered in the last two years.
