Ukraine has Detained Chechen Asylum Seekers
According to news from Georgia’s Russian television channel, Perviy Kavkaz, Ukrainian border guards have detained five Chechen asylum seekers.
The Chechens were trying to cross the Ukraine-Slovakia border but were detained in the province of Zakarpattia by border guards. The province is located in southwest portion of Ukraine, near the border of Slovakia.
The detainees are a 42-year old Chechen woman, her two children and their two close relatives. They are being kept in a Chop border detention center. As it turns out, the family arrived in Ukraine legally, but they tried to illegally reach the EU member state Slovakia.
