Umarov’s Brother Arrested in Italy
The Italian news agency, ANSA has reported that the brother of so-called “Caucasus Emirate” leader Dokka Umarov was arrested in Italy.
On January 30th, 35-year old Ruslan Umarov was travelling from France to Italy by train. However, the French secret service informed their Italian colleagues about his movements. Italian police arrested him at the train station in the Venice commune, Mestre.
The Italian authorities said that Ruslan Umarov was going to Italy to seek asylum on humanitarian grounds. He is reportedly being held in custody in Italy’s northeastern city of Gorizia by immigration services.
The charges against him have not yet been made public. However, Russian authorities officially sent Italy an information request about the arrest of Ruslan Umarov. It is expected that Russia will demand his extradition.
It is know that two of Dokka Umarov’s other brothers, Isa and Musa died during the war in Chechnya. His elder brother, Akhmed was kidnapped by the puppet regime in Chechnya and his younger brother, Vakha lives in Istanbul, Turkey. However, Ruslan Umarov’s name heard first time.
CORRECTION: On February 1, the Italian news agency, ANSA has reported that the detainee isn’t brother of Dokka Umarov. It is just a name anology.
