Deportation from Austria Stopped
Austrian radio, ORF has reported that police could not carry out the deportation of a Chechen asylum seeking woman, and her two sons, because of her suicide attempt.
Members of the “Purple Sheep” Association said that, the 46-year old Chechen mother, P. attempted suicide on Sunday night, and since Monday she has been kept on watch in a psychiatric unit. Her two sons, 13-year old Magomed and 21-year old Khizir, are also under psychological supervision. According to the Austrian NGO, if the deportation to Poland is realized, then after a while the family will be sent back to Chechnya, where P’s husband had been abducted from their house, and disappeared.
“We have canceled the official act now. At the moment, we must take care of the mother’s health. When she gets better, we will see,” said Mario Hejl, the police spokesman.
“It is the seventh suicide attempt, and once again it failed. It shows that the mother is really ill and the deportation is impossible. Thus, they must let the family stay in Austria,” said Karin Klaric, a legal advisor of the family.
According to the news, another Chechen family is also at risk for deportation to Poland. However, when the family received the information, they disappeared.
