Chechen Athletes: June 2011 Review
Throughout June of 2011, Chechen athletes participated in competitions and achieved positive results in wrestling and judo in different parts of Europe.
On June 4, the German city of Anger hosted an international wrestling tournament in memory of Thomas Kirshner. A total of 140 wrestlers, between 6-17 years old, participated in the tournament. Chechen wrestlers from the Austrian diaspora competed in the tournament for the “Voest Sport Club,” which is under the management of Chechen coach Umar Chekarbiev. Another sports club with Chechen wrestlers from Salzbourg also competed. Umar Chekarbiev’s fighters came in third place as a team. Here are results from the Chechen wrestlers:

Group A-B (born between 1994-1998)
63kg: Umar Yakubov (Silver Medal)
On June 18, a judo tournament was held in the French city of Nice. A total of 20 Chechen athletes, between 4 and 10 years old, participated in the competition under the management of Chechen coach, Timur Dzagiev. Ibragim Leymov, Mikail Leymov, Tamerlan Idigov, Baysangur Askhanov, and Sheikh Mansour Askhabov won gold medals in their age groups. Naim Abdullaev and Imam Askhabov won silver medals in their categories. On the other hand, many of our athletes won their second medals because they fought against older wrestlers.
On June 26, the German city of Bonn hosted the 15th wrestling tournament in memory of Willie Voley. A total of 127 athletes from 21 different clubs in Germany participated in the tournament. Here are results from Chechen athletes:

Group for 9-12 year olds:
29kg: Shamkhan Mugaev (4th place)
34kg: Deni Nakaev (5th place)
38kg: Musa Suleymanov (Bronze Medal), Abdula Yusupov (5th place)
42kg: Deni Mugaev (Silver Medal)
Group for 13-17 year olds:
34kg: Ramzan Ibragimov (Gold Medal)
46kg: Salambek Mugaev (Silver Medal)
76kg: Alikhan Kasumov (Silver Medal)
Group for Young Adults:
84kg: Shamil Kasumov (Silver Medal)
96kg: Artur Sultanov (Bronze Medal)
During the same tournament, Chechen judge Aslan (Islam) Bisanov passed his exams and became an official wrestling judge in Germany. Bisanov passed the exam on theory with 116 points out of 125 maximum points; he passed the practical exam without any errors.
