Protest for Detained Chechen in Croatia
The website Ichkeria.info has reported that “The Organization of Former Prisoners of Russian Filtration Camps from the Chechen Republic of Ichkeria (OUFKL-ChRI)” organized a protest in front of the Croatian Embassy in Austria in connection to the arrest of Aslan Kagermanov.
According to the organization, Aslan Kagermanov, who was arrested by Croatia and is at risk for extradition to Russia, was abducted by Russian soldiers in the Russian occupied Chechen Republic of Ichkeria in September 2001. He was held in a detention center in Gudermes for ten days. He was released due to the efforts of Human Rights Center “Memorial”s Nazran branch and other human rights organizations in Moscow. Problems for the Kagermanov family started after they went to the European Court of Human Rights about the disappearance of their loved ones. First, Russian invaders threatened the family and then abducted Aslan and his brother, Adam Kagermanov. Since 2004, they have been trying to terrorize Aslan’s father, even abducting him once and keeping him in a secret detention center in Chechnya for a year. Relatives of Aslan Kagermanov say that all the charges against Aslan are fabricated and are only for assuring Aslan’s return to Chechnya and the withdrawal of their application at the ECHR.
According to the organization, the protest will be held in front of the Croatian Embassy, which is at “Heuberggasse 10, 1170 Vienna, Austria”. The action will take place on September 28, 2011 between 2:00pm and 5:00pm local time.
