Chechen Asylum Seeker Dies in Brussels
Local news sources have reported that a Chechen asylum seeker died after being struck by a tram in Brussels, Belgium.
According to the report, on January 26, 2011, during the afternoon, a 52-year old Chechen asylum seeker tried to get on tram number 81 after the doors closed at the “Place du Conseil” station in the Anderlecht district of Brussels. However, the tram started to move and the Chechen man got stuck between the tram and rails. The victim lost his life at the scene.
The district prosecutor said that they have opened an investigation, however, the precise circustances of the accident have not been established yet, and the case will be looked at by the courts after the autopsy results are returned.
