Newcomers in the Spotlight: Chechens in Your City
The Public School for Adults in Denderstreek and in the Flemish Ardennes, “Vormingplus”, has announced the formation of a day about Chechens in Belgium on September 29, 2012.
Here is the information:
You see them everywhere, many newcomers. These newcomers include many Chechens lately. We invite you to get acquainted with some privileged witnesses. Annemarie Gielen, an expert on Eastern Europe from the Pax-Christi Flanders will outline the political background of Chechnya. Elmira Erstukayeva, a committed Chechen woman, will explain Chechen family life for us, both there and here.
What does Chechnya look like? Why did so many Chechens leave their homeland? Why is Belgium so attractive to them? How many of them are here? Where and how do they live?
It will be a fascinating and enlightening look into the Chechen people. Moreover, if you would like to taste the Chechen cuisine and culture, you should not miss this special day.
The event is being organized in cooperation with the Sintar, Pax-Christi, ODiCE, and Geraardsbergen Integration Service.
Participation is possible only with registration via telephone or the website of “Vormingplus”. Admission price is 1,5 and 7 Euro.
The event will take place at “Vormingplus, Kollegestraat 26 a, 9500 Geraardsbergen” from 9.30-12.00 on September 29, 2012.
