Chechen Asylum Seeker in France Faces Deportation

The Montauban office of Education without Borders (Réseau Education Sans Frontières – 82) has reported that a male Chechen asylum seeker was sent to a detention center and may be deported at any moment to Russia.

Earlier we had reported a deportation threat facing a male Chechen asylum seeker; however, he also had a relative in the same situation. One of them has been released but the other one is still being kept in the detention center because he resisted boarding his deportation flight.

On Friday October 12, Aslan Dangayev and his relative, Suleyman Saadayev were taken to the Toulouse Blagnac Airport. However, Germany refused the flight through their territory and French authorities could not carry out the deportation.

Activists from The Montauban office of Education without Borders made every effort to change the deportation decision of the governorship of the city of Tarn et Garonne. On Sunday October 14, it was learned that their efforts were successful as Suleyman Saadayev, father of four children, received a letter from the Tarn et Garonne Prefect stating “I reprieve the deportation order against you and proceed to release you”. After receiving this letter, Suleyman was released from the Administrative Detention Center in Cornebarrieu and re-united with his family. However, there was no decision on Suleyman’s 27-year old single relative, Aslan Dangayev. It is unknown whether the Prefect thinks that the risk of imprisonment for Aslan is less serious simply because he is single and childless!

On Monday October 15, Aslan Dangayev was taken to Toulouse Blagnac Airport to be deported to Moscow via Roissy Charles de Gaulle Airport on flight AF 7781. About 30 activists informed passengers and the flight crew about Aslan’s desperate situation. Aslan resisted boarding the plane, which would have delivered him into the Russian state’s bloody hands. The police arrested Aslan and he was taken to the Toulouse City Court for an immediate correction. The court decided on one month administrative detention.

We must remind you that this verdict does not stop the deportation order and he may be deported anytime.

Only the Tarn et Garonne Prefect may stop this order and release Aslan Dangayev as he did earlier for Suleyman Saadayev.

Please ask Mr. Fabien Sudry not to extradite Chechen asylum seeker Aslan Dangayev and give him liberty:
