Number of Chechen Asylum Seekers in Germany Increases
A daily German newspaper, “Berliner Morgenpost” has reported that the number of Chechen asylum seekers is growing.
According to the news, the number of asylum seekers is growing; it has increased more than 50% in comparison to the previous year and Berlin cannot accommodate such high numbers of asylum seekers.
“Normally the influx of asylum seekers goes down in the early months of the year, but not this year. During the first two months of 2013, more than 2,000 people asked for asylum just in the capital, Berlin. By comparison, the previous year, this number was about 900 people. And half of these new applicants are from Chechnya, because the political situation is further exacerbated,” said Silvia Kostner, spokeswoman of the State Department of Health and Welfare (LAGeSo).
