Protests and Commemoration Programs Held for Medet Onlu

Medet Onlu, Honorary Consul of the Chechen Republic of Ichkeria in Turkey, Qoman Siy and Qoman Turpal medals holder, was assassinated in his office in Ankara on May 22, 2013. Due to his first death anniversary, several protest meetings and commemoration programs held in Turkey and Europe.

Even though, today was the first anniversary of Medet Onlu’s death, so far, Turkish authorities have not found the hit-man nor his instigators, but instead, they have done everything possible to cover up the assassination. At this point, an initiation group organized a protest in front of the Turkish Embassy in Paris on May 22, 2014 between 18:30 and 19:30. The participants protested the unacceptable attitude of Turkish authorities and asked justice for Medet. According to the our local correspondents, similar protests were held in different cities of Turkey.

On the other hand, the Chechen diaspora in Turkey organized a commemoration program for Medet Onlu and other martyrs in Chechnya. The event was held in the city of Kahramanmaraş. The event started at 20:00 at the meeting hall of the Kahramanmaraş Artisans and Craftsmen Union. During the event, monthly magazine “Marsho” shared its May-June 2014 issue which is entirely dedicated to Medet Onlu, with the participants.
