International Conference on Chechnya Starts in Brussels

The Union of the Chechen Youth “Noxchycho” organizes an international Conference (Forum) dedicated to the 20th anniversary of the Russian-Chechen war and the 10th anniversary of the death of the President of ChRI Aslan Maskhadov.

The conference has started with the registration of guests on the evening of March 6, and it will continue during weekend.

The participants will discuss the historical relationships of Chechenia and Russia; the political history of Chechenia`s struggle against the Russian Empire and the proclamation of the State sovereignty of the Republic of Chechnya in 1990; the first aggression of Russia against Chechenia within the period of 1994-1996, the situation in the Chechen Republic since 1997 till 1999 and the political role of A. Maskhadov; the year of 1999: the beginning and the consequences of the second Russian aggression against Chechenia; Russian outreach war against the Chechen nation; and the international community’s response to the events in Chechenia.

The government of the Chechen Republic of Ichkeria and representatives of the government also participate to the event, including Prime Minister Akhmed Zakayev, Foreign Minister Usman Ferzauli and MP Khuseyn Iskhanov.

The event hosts high-profile names like former Lithuanian President Professor Vytautas Landsbergis, Lithuanian Seim MP Rytas Kupčinskas, Secretary-General of the international group of Lithuanian parliamentarians on the problems of Chechenia Algirdas Èndrûkajtis, member of parliament of Ukraine Didich Valentin Vladimirovich and director of “The Search” Michel Hazanavicius.
