{"id":2435,"date":"2009-08-14T11:07:04","date_gmt":"2009-08-14T08:07:04","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.waynakh.com\/eng\/?p=2435"},"modified":"2009-08-14T11:17:22","modified_gmt":"2009-08-14T08:17:22","slug":"novaya-gazeta-pulls-out-of-chechnya","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.waynakh.com\/eng\/2009\/08\/novaya-gazeta-pulls-out-of-chechnya\/","title":{"rendered":"Novaya Gazeta Pulls Out of Chechnya"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">On August, 12, 2009 Russia\u2019s opponent newspaper Novaya Gazeta declared that it would pull its journalists out of Chechnya after a human rights activist and her husband were killed as part of a string of killings there.<!--more--><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">In the latest killings in Chechnya which is under occupation of Russia, Zarema Sadulayeva, the kidnapped head of a children\u2019s charity, and her husband Umar Dzhabrailov were found murdered in the boot of a car in Grozny, the capital of Chechnya on Tuesday.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The attack came a month after leading Chechen rights activist Natalya Estemirova was kidnapped and murdered by unknown assailants, triggering international outrage.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cDo these massacres mean that a coordinated campaign to destroy human rights advocates has been launched in Chechnya?\u201d Novaya Gazeta said in a statement posted on its website <a href=\"http:\/\/www.novayagazeta.ru\" target=\"_blank\">www.novayagazeta.ru<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cFollowing a number of international human rights bodies and charities, Novaya Gazeta has decided to suspend the activity of its journalists covering events in Chechnya,\u201d it added.
