Chechen Asylum Seeker Arrested in Romania
The Romanian media has reported that Romanian border guards have arrested a Chechen asylum seeker after he illegally crossed the Moldova-Romania border.
According to the news, on April 8 the guards from the Romanian Border Police Section spotted two dubious men in the Ştefăneşti area. One of the men has wet and dirty clothes, thus border guards took them to Romanian Border Police Section’s headquarters for further investigation. During the following investigation, it was found that two men, one Moldavian and one Chechen, crossed the border illegally over the Prut river.
The 40-year old Chechen man had no identifying documents, but he applied for asylum in Romania immediately after his interrogation. However, the Romanian police prepared a file for the criminal offense of “entry into Romania by illegally crossing the state border” and submitted the file to the Prosecutor’s Office.
