Chechen Prisoners Face Torture in Pyatigorsk
Waynakh Online has received an e-mail about torture facing Chechen prisoners in the SIZO and Pyatigorsk prison in Stavropol Krai, Russia.
According to a statement from Lolita Ashaeva, her brother, Valid Ashaev, born in 1988, has been repeatedly tortured during pre-trial proceedings in the Pyatigorsk SIZO. He is kept in a solitary cell where he was humiliated, tortured, and had gag put in his mouth. While he was severely beaten, the guards justified their actions because by saying they were allegedly avenging their fallen colleagues from the beginning of the Russian military invasion in Chechnya. They did not stop even though Valid could not have participated in any struggle against the Russian army, because at the time of the outbreak of war, he was only 11 years old.
Valid’s sister also reported another violation that she is aware of. In prison number 26/2 in Pyatigorsk, the Chechen prisoners are being humiliated, they face bad treatment and they don’t have basic fundamental rights because of racist hatred against them.
