Ilya Politkovsky: “Today Nobody Dares to Report From Chechnya”
Der Spiegel, a weekly German magazine, conducted an interview with Ilya Politkovsky, son of the murdered Russian journalist Anna Politkovskaya, marking the anniversary of her death.
In his interview, the magazine!s Moscow reporter Benjamin Bidder asked “If your mother was alive today, what would she write?”. “She would still write about Chechnya. It is like the former Soviet times, now we only hear good news from Chechnya. Kadyrov has built a new stadium, a new mosque, etc. But it is getting worse. Since my mother died, Chechnya has become a white spot. Nobody dares to report from there,” said Ilya Politkovsky.
