Latvians Want to Keep Avenue of Dudaev
Latvian right-wings political parties declared that they will not let to rename Avenue of Dzhokhar Dudaev (Džohara Dudajeva gatve).
The deputies of Riga City Council from Latvian political parties, New Era (Jaunais Laiks, JL) and Civic Union (Pilsoniskā savienība, PS) strongly opposed to idea for renaming Avenue of Dzhokhar Dudaev.
At the same time, Latvijas Avīze, a daily Latvian newspaper, published an article of Girtsa Konratsa. “We must stand up for Dudaev, let’s remember who is Dzhokhar Dudaev, why did we gave his name to a street in Riga and why do Russians hate him?” wrote Konratsa and wrote to life story of Dudaev.
As we previously reported that, Nils Ushakov, the mayor of Riga is trying to rename for “Avenue of Dzhokhar Dudaev” (Džohara Dudajeva gatve); during a Moscow visit, he said said they may consider rename Avenue of Dudaev, if they get a proposal from city habitants. And Ushanov’s press secretary Anna Kononova had confirmed it.
