The Norwegian Refugee Council Office was Closed in Pankisi Gorge
Office of the Norwegian Refugee Council (NRC) was closed in the Pankisi Gorge. All those programs, which the Norwegian Refugee Council had been carrying out for Chechen refugees living in the gorge, were stopped.
According to refugees, decision to close the office was a demand of the new leadership of the Council. “They cited the following argument that most of refugees from Chechnya, after obtaining a passport, left the gorge, which is not true. We have received passports but we cannot go to a third country because of lack of funds. The only organization that was paying attention to us was the office of the Norwegian Refugee Council,”- said Chechen refugees.
The Norwegian Refugee Council continues its work in Tbilisi. It does not officially comment on reasons for the closure of the office in the Pankisi Gorge, reported by Expert Club.
