Rally in Memoriam of Maskhadov in Moscow
On March 11, human rights activists demonstrated in memoriam of Aslan Maskhadov near the monument of Aleksander Griboyev in Moscow.
The memoriam rally was organized for the fifth death anniversary of Aslan Maskhadov by a initiative group consisting of activists of Anti-war club and staff members of Human Rights Center Memorial. Around two dozen people participated the rally, they hold banners and handed out leaflets with titles: “How can we lie about Makshadov” and “The Presindent who wanted the Peace”. “Over the past five years, Russian authorities didn’t change their methods for solving the problems in the North Caucasus: only using force! Possibility of a political process and dialogue with the warring parties completely excluded. As a result, the format of the resistance in the North Caucasus, and the Russian-Chechen war has been transformed into a guerilla war in the Caucaus” was said in the leaflets.
Mikhail Kriger, one of the organizer of the memoriam rally and an activist of Anti-war Club, said that some Chechens who live in Moscow, wanted to be participate of the rally but they couldn’t dare it because the fear and current tense situation in Chechnya. However some of them assisted to prepare and hand away the leaflets.
