Alla Dudaeva: “The Court is Passing Them into the Hands of Executioners!”
Earlier we published news about the ECHR’s decision that allows the extradition of two Chechen asylum seekers. Alla Dudaeva gave a short interview to Georgia’s Perviy Kavkaz TV channel on this issue.
“The Strasbourg court decided to extradite two Chechen refugees, Ali Ibragimov and Anzor Chentiev to Russia. The court’s decision stated that ‘Russia has guaranteed to provide a fair trial and not capital punishment’. Since 2006, Ibragimov and Centiev have been in prison in Slovakia. They have been waiting 4 years for an escort to Russia. The pair were arrested because of the Russian prosecutor’s demand. Ali Ibragimov and Anzor Chentiev were soldiers in the unit of Aslan Maskhadov. After his death, they left the territory of the Chechen Republic of Ichkeria and arrived in Slovakia with great difficulties and asked asylum there. Now they are going to be extradited to Russia, even after all the arguments from human rights defenders from places including Russia, that there is no justice in Russia and Chechen citizens are subject to torture and ill-treatment in penal colonies and prisons. As stated in the international convention on the status of refugees, ‘States should not be expelling, deporting or extraditing persons to other countries where they face torture or ill-treatment’. And now we have broken this! It is not about the luck, but it was broken with the decision of the European court. The court is passing them into the hands of executioners!” said Alla Dudaeva, the widow of Dzhoxar Dudaev.
