Mass Expulsion from Norway
Radio Ekho Kavkaz has reported that Norway continues to expel illegal asylum seekers from Chechnya. It was reported that in one day the authorities deported more than 50 people.
On January 25th, Norwegian police deported 15-16 Chechen asylum seeking families, which is approximately 50-60 people. The Norwegian Migration Service did not comment on the issue.
“In fact the problem lies in that Norwegian authorities do not want to take into account the reports of human rights organizations as well as the reports of European officials about the situation in the North Caucasus. We are talking about the people who face a real threat if they go back to North Caucasus, particularly Chechnya. What waits for these people in Chechnya? Abduction, extrajudicial killings, torture…,” said Akhmed Gisayev, a Chechen human rights defender.
