The last elected legitimate President of the Chechen Republic of Ichkeria, Aslan Maskhadov died and became a shaheed (insaAllah) during an uneven battle with Russian invaders in Chechnya’s Tolstoy-Yurt village, on March 8, 2005.

He was searching for a way to stop the brutal Russian aggression in the historical territory of the Chechen people. For this aim, he had unilaterally declared a cease-fire only one month prior to his assassination. However, the global community did nothing to help, in spite of all his attempts at peace. Russia proved once again, they don’t need peace, but they need war, and so, they killed him.

Authorities of the Russian Federation refuse to turn the remains of Aslan Maskhadov over to his relatives. Thus, from here through our website, once again we demand that the Russian Federation hand Aslan Maskhadov’s corpse to his family immediately, for his burial according to Muslim and Chechen traditions.
