New Victory for Mamed Khalidov
Mamed Khalidov continues to establish himself as one of the top middleweights. On Saturday evening, he defeated his American rival Matt Lindland in the end of the first round.
On May 21, Ergo Arena in the city of Gdansk, Poland hosted the MMA fighters for “Konfrontacja Sztuk Walki 16”. Chechen fighter Mamed Khalidov fought against American MMA legend Matt Lindland in the 85kg category.
Mamed Khalidov choked his rival out via guillotine (submission) in the first round of action. Matt Lindland’s vaunted wrestling background was only a minor threat during the fight when he nearly reversed Khalidov’s attempt to take him down shortly after the fight started. After a brief scramble, Lindland was able to regain his footing but that only staved off the inevitable for a short time. Khalidov quickly jumped and sunk him into a guillotine choke immediately after Lindland reengaged, bearing down a tremendous amount of power on Lindland’s windpipe. Lindland shuffled toward the turnbuckle, falling down the ground. He never had the chance to tap and lost consciousness, only to awaken as the referee stood over him trying to wake him up.
