More and More Civilians Leave Chechnya

Radio Liberty’s Chechen language edition, “Radio Marsho” has reported that on a daily basis 50-60 people are leaving the Russian occupied Chechen Republic of Ichkeria.

According to the report, about 200,000 Chechen asylum seekers and refugees live in the various European countries and America. But this number is continuing to grow because civilians in the Russian occupied Chechen Republic of Ichkeria are selling their houses and leaving their homeland with their families. On a daily basis, at least 50-60 people leave for Europe.

An employee at the pro-Russian regime’s passport department, who would like to remain anonymous, told Radio Marsho that about 60,000 Chechen civilians have applied for passports at the moment, and most of them are waiting for their passports to leave the country.

Tamara, a Chechen asylum seeker who arrived in Europe recently, said that people are not leaving the Russian occupied Chechen Republic of Ichkeria for economic reasons, but because of the injustice.

“There is no freedom in Chechnya. They take away those who they don’t like or have a small doubt about. And they are forcing their hostages to take some crimes on. Therefore, people leave our homeland and come to Europe to find freedom and tranquility in their heads. In addition to the lack of freedom, what is strangling people in their homes are bribes. You have to pay bribes for anything, at any moment. They talk about new buildings and new roads. Not everybody can benefit from these beautiful and big houses. The roads are another joke. When there is snow or rain, in a month it is deteriorated. But at the same time, you don’t have a future there. There is no business opportunity, to find a simple job you have to pay bribes. European people think that the war is over, and Chechen civilians come to Europe for economic reasons, but not political reasons. However, the situation in Chechnya is not as easy as it seems from Europe. You can’t explain what is happening in Chechnya only for one reason. Politics, the economy, military actions and more are all screwed up there,” said Tamara.
