Medet Unlu, Honorary Consul of the Chechen Republic of Ichkeria in Turkey, was assassinated at about 7:10pm on May 22, at his office in Ankara.

According to the first data that we received, on May 22, at about 7:10pm, an unknown person or persons arrived at the Office of the Honorary Consulate of the Chechen Republic of Ichkeria in Turkey, which is in Ankara, the capital of Turkey. Consul Medet Unlu opened the door and was shot several times with a silenced gun. The attacker then left the building in a white car. Our Consul, our elder, our comrade, Medet Unlu fell where he stood due to the flurry of bullets that hit him from a close range. He passed away at the scene and became Shaheed (inshaAllah)!

For a long time, Medet Unlu and his close circle received death threats from members of the pro-Moscow regime in the Russian occupied Chechen territory as well as various Salafist groups. However, as a real Abrek he was always saying that he was not afraid of anyone except Allah and his address was known by everyone. How could he know that these butchers would come to his office in the center of Ankara and take unfair action as mercenaries!

Medet Unlu was an active member of the old Chechen diaspora in Turkey which has existed since the end of the 19th century, after the Tsarist regime instituted policies of genocide and deportation. In 1994, when Russian military forces occupied the lands of the Chechen Republic of Ichkeria, like many of his fellow countryman in the Turkish diaspora, he joined the legitimate struggle against the Russian invaders. But, unlike many of us, he devoted his life, his work and his energy to this aim. There is not even one Chechen who was forced to leave Chechnya and move to Turkey, who wouldn’t know him; someone who needed food, found him; someone who needed a roof over his head, found him; someone who was sick, found him; he never turned his back to any Chechen. As his name says, he became their “Medet” which means “help, assistance” in Turkish. He also worked hard to get citizenship or at least residence and working permits for Chechen asylum seekers in Turkey, and in this aim, he spent his days inside of the Turkish bureaucracy in Ankara. He organized hundreds of conferences, seminars and photo exhibitions all around Turkey, to show people the real face of the Russian occupation and the reality of Chechnya. In the last few years, the attitude in Turkey toward Chechnya has dramatically changed with the help of the pro-Russian regime’s bloody money. Still, he never gave up and resisted alone, but as strong as a stone against all the propagandists. This is why they wanted to take him away from us, they wanted to hit us in our hearts and they wanted to shut up the Turkish diaspora, which has put their hearts and minds to the holy cause of the Dudaevs and Maskhadovs.

Yes, unfortunately after this assassination, we, the Chechen diaspora in Turkey, are orphans! The reason behind our orphan hood is the blank check which was given by the Republic of Turkey to the Russian Federation. The AK Party which steers the Republic of Turkey is silent, as they have played the role of the famous three monkeys in other assassinations against Chechens in Turkey! The parliamentarians under the roof of the Turkish Parliament, which we believe represent the citizens in Turkey, has not even one brave person who may ask questions about these ongoing assassinations. Despite these attitudes and assassinations, if they think that they will stop our activities and efforts to live in a free Chechen land, they are really wrong, because now we are stronger and we will become as one fist, to walk in the path of our respectable elder, Medet Unlu.
