For the last two weeks we have been bombarded with some cold news from Dubai Central Jail:

Two Chechen young men, Rustambek Ismailov and Magomed Malsagov – case number: 11407/2011, are being subject to vicious treatment by the prison administration. Rustambek Ismailov is kept in a solitary cell without being able to practice his basic religious rituals such as fasting and performing prayer. His family, wife and children, are unable to visit him, which is also a brutal attitude of their captors especially in the holy month of Ramadan.

Without justifying the acts of our men, which ultimately led them to be sentenced, we urge the Prison authorities (the names could be brought to light if needed), and Dubai administration in general to make inquiries on this case of human rights violations, as prisoners are humans and deserve being treated likewise. Please, let the inmates practice their rights!

We are also certain, having heard a great deal about his honesty and piety, that Sheikh Muhammad bin Rashid al Maktum is unaware of the state of things in the Central Jail and we believe, he would have not allowed people to be treated this way during Ramadan. Therefore, we sincerely ask and hope that enough attention will be paid to correct things within the prison and bring back justice.

Eventually, let us stress that the reasons for his cruel treatment are unknown to us. The only phenomenon that we notice these days is that Chechens are treated badly and unfairly in some eastern countries due to the absence of any institution that may raise concerns about them. We are treated as “ownerless”. But we will continue to make inquiries on their behalf and hope for the better, Insha’Allah!
