Chechen Storm in Europe
Chechen athletes achieved successful results at international and national tournaments of judo, wrestling and boxing.
On January 23-24, Free Style an Greco-Roman style wrestling championship of France took place in Schiltigheim city which is close to Strasbourg. Two Chechen wrestlers became champions in free style among their categories. In the category of 84 kg weight, Said Akhmed Itayev, a member of France national team, won the golden medal. Muslim Saypulayev competed in the 96 kg category. He defeated the Andre Massida, son of France national team’s coach, in the final game and became the champion.
On January 16-17, Royal Judo Club from Nivelles city of Belgium, organized 26th of its traditional International Tournament in Honour of Willy Manquoy (XXVI-ème Tournoi International de Nivelles – Challenge Willy Manquoy). 767 athletes of all ages from 102 clubs of Belgium, France and Luxembourg were attended this year’s tournament. Young Chechen judoists also were participant of the tournament and gained prizes. Among the juniors, these names gained golden medals at their categories: Ibragim Bakayev, Almanzor Elpiyev and Deni Dokayev. Two Chechen judoist, Azan Dudaev and Alambek Elpiyev, gained silver medals at their categories. And the most gratifying result came from Iman Bakayeva, sister of Ibragim Bakayev, who took second places among the junior girls.
On February 18-20, Bulgaria hosted the Strandja International Boxing Tournament. Artur Beterbiyev represented the Chechen people at the tournament. He beat all his rivals and became the champion of the tournament.
