A Chechen Arrested in Ukraine
Ukrainian media has reported that a 54-year old Chechen man was arrested in the city of Feodosiya in Crimea, Ukraine.
According to the report, on April 13th Crimean police arrested Omar Bekayev, an ethnic Chechen, and placed him in a temporary detention center.
Ukrainian officials said that Omar Bekayev has been on the international search list since 2008 because of the decision of a Moscow district court. The Russian side accused Omar of involvement in a woman’s kidnapping.
On April 14th, Bekayev appeared before the Feodosiya City Court and the court sentenced him to provisional detention for up to 40 days. However, the Prosecutor General of Ukraine explained that they are awaiting an extradition request from the Russian Federation for Omar.
