The State Border Committee of Belarus has reported that five Chechen asylum seekers have been detained in Lithuania and were handed over to Belarus.

According to the information, on July 29, five Chechen asylum seekers passed the Belarus-Lithuania border in Smorgon. After a short while, the Belarusian border guards figured out the path leading to Lithuania and informed their Lithuanian colleagues. About 50 minutes later, Lithuanian border guards arrested the Chechen asylum seekers and handed them over to Belarus immediately.

There is no further information about the identities and fate of the asylum seekers.
