Chechens in Austria Protest Deportation Order
Local sources have reported that a protest against the deportation of Chechen asylum seeker Salman Mamaev was held in the city of Bregenz, Austria, as stated yesterday by the Chechen community in Vorarlberg.
According to the information, on October 10, at 1:00 PM local time about 100 Chechen protesters, including women and children, gathered in the city of Bregenz in spite of poor weather conditions. Chechen community members shouted slogans protesting the deportation of their fellow citizen. The protesters held placards which stated things like “Deportation is Death!” and “Stop the Deportation” as well as the flag of the Chechen Republic of Ichkeria. In a symbolic gesture, they marched through to Lindau, which is on the way to the European Parliament in Strasbourg. After the march, the protest ended.
Recall that Salman Mamaev was a former member of the Chechen National Liberation Movement against the Russian invaders in his homeland. He is married, but his asylum demand was rejected by the Austrian authorities. At any moment he can be delivered into the brutal hands of the Russian invaders, thus he needs help in suspending the deportation procedure.
