Turkish Parliamentarian Warns Against New Assasinations of Chechens in Turkey
The Turkish daily newspaper “Yeni Akit” has reported that a Turkish parliamentarian warned the Turkish government about the possible new assassinations against Chechens in Turkey.
Ozcan Yeniceri, parliamentarian from Ankara and member of the Nationalist Movement Party (MHP), has pointed out that in Turkey, Russian intelligence service members have murdered Chechen activists who were active in the Chechen resistance against the Russian occupation; and authorities didn’t expose the hit-men or the instigators.
“Russian intelligence service members are on a safari. They are hunting Chechen activists in Turkey who are supporting the independence movement in Chechnya. However, Turkey doesn’t end to its investigations and doesn’t conduct detailed research. Is it because of pressure from Russia or another reason that we don’t know? But there still aren’t any official explanations about these assassinations in Turkey by the authorities. They didn’t even give an answer to our written proposal,” said Turkish MP Yeniceri.
Yeniceri asked the Turkish government to revise their Chechnya policy and continued with these words: “These people are the legacy of Imam Shamil. They are a part of us. It is a historical responsibility for us to protect and take care of them. If we cannot protect them today, we cannot protect ourselves tomorrow. It isn’t a subject that we can forget. It is an actual topic. For this reason, the AK Party must explain to the public in Turkey, what they have been doing with the investigations of these assassinations. On the other hand, there is a lack of security on the border of Syria and Turkey due to the ongoing civil war in the region. Russian spies or their intelligence service officers may benefit from this gap and they may organize surprise assassinations against Chechens in Turkey. AK Party government must take necessary measures to prevent possible incidents before it is too late. After the incident has happened, it has no mean to publish video records or photos. The first mission must be prevent the assassinations. I am concerned about the Chechen residents in our country. Russia knows that the Chechen problem is the most dangerous thing for them. They don’t want to leave the door open and they interfere directly or indirectly wherever there is a Chechen movement. They try to eliminate them. In this way, they are giving a message to the rest of Chechen people that if you don’t stop, your fate will be same, as you see, we are watching you everywhere, we know what you are doing and we may kill you anywhere, even Turkey is not safe for you. They kill Chechens and they leave our territory freely as nothing happened. So, it is a topic that we have to put emphasis on it.”
We must remind you that some members of MHP are also very close to the pro-Moscow regime in the Russian occupied Chechen Republic of Ichkeria. In 2010, when Ramzan Kadyrov visited Turkey, their MP from the city of Adana, Muharrem Varli and their major in the town of Ceyhan, Huseyin Sozlu accompanied him. After this visit, Huseyin Sozlu visited the Russian occupied Chechen territory. So, if Mr Yeniceri wants to change something and he is not playing to win our votes, first of all, he must actively combat his friends in the party.
