Greek Court Decides to Extradite Chechen Refugee

The Supreme Court of Greece has decided to hand over a Chechen refugee.

On April 15, the Greek Supreme Court decided to extradite Aslan Lemaevich Chamutaev (Khamutaev) to the Russian Federation. During the hearing, Aslan defended himself by saying that all of the charges against him are fabricated and politically motivated and that he did not commit a crime. However, the court decided to extradite, even though he is a recognized political refugee in Belgium and under the protection of international law.

Greek authorities are planning to hand him over to Russia within one month. His Belgian lawyer has already reported that he was going to apply at the European Court of Human Rights, but, there is no certainty that Greek authorities will wait for the decision or comply with the possible decision.

I hope we keep deporting every Chechen that crosses Greek soil to Russia – either they want them back or not. That way we shall be spared the fate of the Bostoners…

I hope people will stay away from racism, prejudices, and stereotyping when it comes to matters like this. Just because a few members of an ethnic/region/religion acted in a way that resembled the acts of terrorism, doesn’t mean that “everyone” that belongs to the same ethnic/region/religion will certainly do the same. Obviously not. No one should judge the many from the very few, really. It’s called biased thoughts, and it’s thoroughly unfair to the innocents.

Of course, my deepest condolences for those who had been the victim of the bombing in Boston. It’s a horrible way to die for the deceased (may the three deceased victims rest in peace) and an unforgettably horrible event for the injured. I hope the culprit get what they deserve. But it’s still racism to consider every Chechen at fault for the doing of two young men. It’s just as rude and racist as saying every nations should deport all German/Russian citizens because Hitler/Stalin (who was at a time the leader of a highly destructive political party) once killed thousands of innocents.

People can easily see the unfairness, bias, and racism on such sentences…so why is it that when it comes to Chechnya they failed to see those things? There are radical people in every countries, and no one would like their nation to be judged based on the acts of the radicals. Then let’s be fair to Chechnya too, shall we?
