Local sources reported that Austrian police have detained Chechen asylum seeker Salman Mamaev again and he is at risk of being deported to Russia.

Earlier we reported the risk of extradition facing Salman (Danial) Mamaev as well as protests being held in favor of him. However, Austrian police detained him again on the evening of November 26 during a special operation. During the operation, the Austrian special forces unit “Cobra” took charge wearing black masks and carrying guns; the operation was protested by Chechen asylum seekers along with local people because it is well known where Salman has been residing. He is not trying to flee and moreover he is not a terrible criminal; he is just an asylum seeker whose refugee application was rejected.

It was reported that another male Chechen asylum seeker was also detained by the Austrian police along with Salman but we have not yet learned his identity or the reason for his arrest. However, an eyewitness said that he tried to prevent Mamaev’s arrest and so, the special agents took him into custody as well.

In addition, Salman’s pregnant wife Makka Mamaeva became ill during the operation and was taken to the emergency room. The condition of her health is unclear at the moment.

It was learned that Salman Mamaev and the other Chechen asylum seeker were taken to a detention center in the city of Bregenz and they may be deported to Russia at any moment.
