Chechen Human Rights Defender Threatened
The Committee Against Torture has published a press-release which reports new threats against Chechen human rights defender, Supyan Baskhanov.
According to the press-release, Lieutenant Colonel Nabibula Shikhaliev, the pro-Russian regime’s deputy chief of armed gangs in the Vedeno district, met with Supyan Baskhanov. He threatened him that they are preparing materials which complains about his complicity with the Chechen mujahedeen and claims that he will be sent to the prison. In addition, Baskhanov’s friends informed him that armed Kadyrovites in Grozny have started to prepare incriminating materials about him.
Recall that he had been threatened at the end of June 2011 because of a public demonstration in Grozny.
Supyan Aslanbekovich Baskhanov is one of the most famous lawyers in Chechnya, and has practiced since 2000. He is the head of regional branch for the Interregional Committee Against Torture (MKPP) in Chechnya.
