Chechen Human Rights Defender was Detained in Moscow (Updated)
On November 5, 2009 in Moscow gang members of pro-Moscow puppet Chechen regime detained Arbi Khachukayev, the head of a Chechen public organization “Pravo” (Law) in Grozny.
Puppet Kadirov’s gang members grabbed Arbi Salambekovich Khachukayev this afternoon, brought him on Vnukovo Airport in Moscow and then bundled him on to a flight from Moscow to Grozny, Memorial said. Its staff were deeply concerned for his safety, it added. The details of the detention isn’t know, but according to British newspaper Guardian, organization “Pravo” has exposed human rights abuses allegedly committed by forces loyal to Chechnya’s Kremlin-appointed puppet leader, Ramzan Kadirov. Last night Kadirov’s interior ministry claimed that Khachukayev had been seized for taking part in an “armed assault”.
Member of the Board of Human Rights Center “Memorial”, head of the Committee “Civic Assistance” Svetlana Gannushkina sent a request to a transport line department of internal affairs of the airport. She demands to confirm that the people who are taking Khachukayev away have all the proper paperwork. If they don’t have it, they have to be stopped from engaging in these illegal actions. But unfortunately she couldn’t get any answer. “It’s not clear whether he’s a hostage or a defendant” said Gannushkina.
