Assassination Attempt against Chechen Asylum Seeker in Turkey
Local sources report that unknown men have tried to assassinate a Chechen asylum seeker in Turkey.
According to the information, on the night of May 8, a Chechen asylum seeker, about 20 years old, left his house to ride a bicycle along the coastline of the city of Yalova. While he was returning to home, he noticed a suspicious black Toyota Corolla near his building and tried to leave the scene quickly. When he turned around to check if the car was following him, he saw that a man in the car was targeting him with a gun. He tried to ride away on his bicycle and then run, but the man shot him in the back five times with a silenced gun. When the Chechen asylum seeker fell down, the suspect and his partner left the scene immediately in their car.
The victim was brought to Yalova State Hospital, and taken into surgery. The doctors say that there were two bullets just above his heart, one bullet in his right shoulder and another one in his stomach. Those three bullets were removed. However, there is also another bullet close to his spinal cord, which could not be removed. His neck was also injured after being grazed by a bullet. The victim managed to survive because his vital organs were not affected, but his condition is still considered serious.
It has been learned that there was a surveillance camera at the scene and now, Turkish police are looking for the suspect. Let us recall that since 2008, 6 Chechen asylum seekers have been assassinated in Turkey. So far, there have been no results in these investigations.
Interestingly enough, there is no coverage of the assassination attempt in Turkish media. The attacks, as well as the silence from Turkish media outlets are of concern to Chechen asylum seekers in Turkey and make them feel insecure.
